Use the Skill to create the next switch
Appraise and Engrave supplies enough Cycle energy to complete an Esper Cycle immediately. Use Ultimate when ready, use Skill, then switch to the character needed for the intended reaction. Staying on Zero to perform a long normal-attack sequence can waste the opening that makes this character useful.
Arcs change the equipment plan
Day Off supports party energy, especially in multi-target fights, but is less effective against a single target. The Rain That Shook the World supports a Cycle-oriented damage setup. With Day Off, prioritize critical stats; with the Cycle route, consider Cycle Intensity first. Fluff of Fearlessness is a paid Battle Pass choice.
Lost Radiance is a damage option. Speedy Hedgehog supplies party utility if another teammate is not already using its non-stacking buff. Your Happiness is Priceless can support a defensive variant, rather than a pure personal-damage build.
Choose the receiving teammate
Anima lets Zero participate in Blossom; Lakshana contributes to the Remora/Charge route. Decide the next recipient before pressing Skill. If the intended Cycle does not appear, inspect the current state and the next character’s attribute rather than adding attack speed.
Progression
Zero is obtained at the start. Later free copies improve the kit, but some extra-hit effects require enemies below Zero’s level. Those effects are a poor reason to judge performance against a higher-level boss. Invest first in the Skill/Ultimate and equipment that serves the party’s Cycle plan.
